A diver from the United States told about a 23-year friendship with a tiger shark. About it writes Oddity Central.
Jim Abernethy and tiger shark Emma first met in 2001, when the diver removed the hook from her mouth. Since then, the diver and the 4.5 metre predator have become friends and are practically inseparable. Every time Jim dives in the water at Tiger Beach in the Bahamas, she swims up to him and rubs her head against him as a sign of affection. The diver noted that this is not the behaviour most people expect from a huge tiger shark, which can easily tear a person apart.
The American compared the shark to a big dog because it also gets excited about him during encounters and waits for him to pet it. “What makes Emma so special is that she’s really big, just huge, and when you look at her it seems like it might be the last thing you’ll ever see in your life. But after being in the water for a while, you realise that it’s loving and affectionate. They are not mindless man-eating monsters, but intelligent creatures, just like cats and dogs. Hanging out with Emma is like rolling around in the grass with a retriever, it’s really fun and cool, we often take selfies together,” Abernathy told reporters.
