Dementia can also make it harder for a person to go down and up stairs. This happens because the brain cannot correctly estimate the distance due to impaired visual-spatial perception. If such symptoms appear, experts advised to consult a doctor, as well as to take care of the person’s safety by installing comfortable handrails and removing objects from the floor that could provoke a fall.
The organisation added that other symptoms of dementia include inability to perform familiar activities, loss of interest in previous hobbies, unexplained changes in mood and personality.
Earlier, Edward Giovannucci, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at Harvard University, said that Chinese and Japanese cuisine is useful for the prevention of dementia. According to him, the effect is achieved due to the content of a large number of vegetables, herbs and seafood in the diets of these countries.
